ASSISTANT SWIM TEAM COACH
EAST / WEST
Under the supervision of the Regional Swim Team Director and Head Swim Team Coach and in accordance with the YMCA philosophy, it is the function of the Assistant Swim Team Coach to assist in conducting quality practices which foster a positive swimming experience that will provide an educational experience, aid personal development, contribute to self discipline and provide an opportunity for all.

Essential Functions:
- Assists Regional Swim Team Director and Head Coach at assigned practice location.
- Maintains availability before and after practice at for least 15 minutes to answer questions.
- Listens to suggestions, questions or concerns from parents, swimmers and Parent Board members and shares suggestions and comments with the Head Swim Team Coach or the Regional Swim Team Director.
- Prevents accidents by encouraging situations that are within guidelines of established safety procedures.
- Maintains an awareness of, and implements pool and building emergency procedures as necessary.
- Prepares for and leads practices safely and at an appropriate level for swimmers.
- Ensures that practices start and finish on time to including set up and clean up.
- Informs participants, parents, staff and Director of any cancellations.
- Enforces all pool rules, locker room rules and building rules to ensure safety.
- Learns the names of all the swimmers and assess their abilities.
- Takes attendance at all practices.
- Provides instruction in stroke technique as well as starts and turns.
- Develops and administers strong team discipline at all times.
- Prepares all meet entries and registrations and delivers required information by each deadline.
- Attends scheduled swim meets; plans and supervises meet warm ups, provides pre-and post-race encouragement and reviews times and splits with swimmers.
- Builds team leadership, encourages good sportsmanship, team loyalty, hard work and courteous, respectful behavior.
- Meets on a weekly basis with the Head Swim Team Coach to exchange information, concerns and ideas.
- Attends and supports all Swim Team fundraising and spirit raising special events.
- Accurately tracks hours worked and submits completed time card on a timely basis.
- Attends monthly Swim Team Parent Board meetings and Parent Informational Meetings at the discretion of the Head Swim Team Coach.
- Demonstrates a cheerful, positive attitude.
- Performs other duties as requested by the Head Swim Team Coach or the Regional Swim Team Director.
Qualifications:
-
Previous coaching experience required.
-
Competitive swimming experience at the high school level or collegiate level required.
-
Highly motivated and willing and able to work independently as well as a part of a team.

Must possess and maintain current Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR/AED certifications.

Must attend New Staff Orientation, Child Abuse Prevention and Blood borne Pathogens trainings within 30 days of hire.
-
Safety Training for Swim Coaches certification is desired.

Requires an understanding of and appreciation for the YMCA and its philosophies and mission.

Must possess excellent customer service skills and have the ability to communicate clearly, effectively and professionally with staff, members and pool patrons of all ages.

Effective leadership skills, well defined technical skills, and training skills are required.

Knowledge of Rules that govern YMCA Competitive Sports, the YMCA of the USA Guidelines for Competitive Sports and the practices outlined in the Technical Assistance Paper for the YMCA Competitive Swimming Programs is required.

Knowledge of USA rules, regulations and guidelines is required.
Days & Hours: August – March, Weekday afternoons/evenings – 6-15 hrs/wk and some weekend hours
Pay Rate: $9.00-$12.00 per hour

LIFEGUARD
EAST / NORTHEAST /WEST
Under the direction of the Youth Development Senior Director/Director of Swim, the Lifeguard actively provides premier member service and provides a safe environment and accountability of all members and guests by maintaining constant surveillance of the pool area and responding to emergencies in accordance with the mission, strategic plan, goals and all policies and procedures of the YMCA of Dane County, Inc. and the Y-USA Best Practices.

Essential Functions:

Maintains accountability of all members and guests by maintaining constant surveillance of the pool area.

Ensures the safety of all members and guests. Knows/reviews all safety rules and emergency procedures. Promotes and enforces safe behaviors and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required.

Knows and understands aquatics programs and department policies and is able to clearly explain said information to members.

Maintains an organized, healthy and safe environment by returning all supplies and equipment to its appropriate place. Performs required safety, cleanliness and maintenance checks, takes the necessary precautions to prevent accidents, and reports any concerns to supervisor.

Increases member retention by providing personalized member experiences and building positive relationships with and among members, staff, volunteers and/or guests. Creates a supportive and uplifting community environment.

Communicates clearly and professionally with members, guests, supervisor, and co-workers as needed.

Respects the confidentiality of all members, volunteers and staff at all times.

Arrives on time prepared with a positive attitude and appropriate attire.

Attends all mandatory staff meetings and all required YMCA staff trainings.

Supports and participates in the Annual Campaign; and promotes member participation.

Acts as a positive role model while implementing YMCA healthy living policies, character development and the four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

Qualifications:
-
Must be at least 16 years of age.
-
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
-
Requires ability to demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.

Requires ability to professionally and effectively communicate with members, staff and supervisors; maintain confidentiality and exchange accurate information.
-
Requires ability to effectively interact with, lead, and motivate members who have a variety of abilities and needs.
-
Ability to maintain certification level of physical and mental readiness at all times.

Flexibility in scheduling is preferred.

Possess or obtain within the indicated time frame the following certifications and keep all certifications current:

Current Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid certification upon hire.

YOrientation, Child Abuse Prevention, and Blood Borne Pathogen training required within 60 days of hire.

SWIM INSTRUCTOR
EAST / NORTHEAST /WEST
Under the direction of the Youth Development Senior Director/Director of Swim, the Swim Instructor actively provides premier member service and safe, motivating aquatic instruction with an emphasis on member engagement in accordance with the mission, strategic plan, goals and all policies and procedures of the YMCA of Dane County, Inc. and the Y-USA Best Practices.

Essential Functions:

Provides high quality, safe and motivating instruction based on class descriptions and feedback.
-
Facilitates socialization, participation and interaction of all participants through active involvement in safe, fun and developmentally appropriate activities; provides adaptations based on individual needs and utilizes positive behavior guidance techniques with participants.

Becomes familiar with the basic class format designs and follows the appropriate format when teaching. Prepares appropriate lesson plans and follows YMCA guidelines.

Maintains accountability of all assigned participants at all times by accurately documenting attendance and performing accountability checks regularly throughout class.

Ensures the safety of all members and guests. Knows/reviews all safety rules and emergency procedures. Promotes and enforces safe behaviors and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required.

Qualifications:
-
Requires sufficient strength, agility and mobility to move about the deck, perform essential functions of position, safely supervise aquatics activities, and directly respond to safety issues and/or emergency in 81 degree chlorinated water and the warm, humid environment of a pool.

Requires the ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including the ability to swim proficiently, sit or stand for extended periods of times, repetitive actions, cardiovascular exertion, performing and maintaining aerobic exercise, full body movement (bending, kneeling, stretching, reaching, jumping, etc.)
-
May require the ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
-
Requires adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
-
Must be able to communicate clearly and project voice.
-
Ability to work independently with general supervision, as well as part of a team.
Pay Rate: $9.00 - $11.50. Based on experience and certifications
