SPORTS DEPARTMENT VACANCIES

 

SPORTS INSTRUCTORS/REFEREES - EAST, NORTHEAST

Job Duties include, but are not limited to: Under the direction of the Youth Development Director/Assistant Director of Sports, the Sports Instructor/Referee actively provides premier member service and motivating sports instruction, oversees games, and enforces rules with an emphasis on member engagement. Provides high quality, safe and motivating instruction based on class descriptions and feedback. Oversees games and enforces rules consistently and fairly. Facilitates socialization, participation and interaction of all participants through active involvement in safe, fun and developmentally appropriate activities; provides adaptations based on individual needs and utilizes positive behavior guidance techniques with participants. Becomes familiar with the basic class format designs and follows the appropriate format when teaching. Prepares appropriate lesson plans and follows YMCA guidelines. Maintains accountability of all assigned participants at all times by accurately documenting attendance and performing accountability checks regularly throughout class. Ensures the safety of all members and guests. Knows/reviews all safety rules and emergency procedures.  Increases member retention by providing personalized member experiences and building positive relationships with and among members, staff, volunteers and/or guests. Creates a supportive and uplifting community environment.. Knows and understands sports programs and department policies and is able to clearly explain said information to members.

Special Certifications or Requirements: Must be at least 16 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent preferred. At least one year related experience playing sport to be taught at a high school or collegiate level is required.  At least one year experience as a referee or sports instructor is preferred. Knowledge of rules, regulations and guidelines of sport required. Knowledge of general child growth and development, learning theories, and developmentally appropriate activities for children preferred. Requires ability to professionally and effectively communicate with members, staff and supervisors; maintain confidentiality and exchange accurate information. Requires ability to effectively interact with, lead, and motivate members who have a variety of abilities and needs. Requires sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise sports activities both indoors and outdoors.

Days & Hours: Variety of Sports - Basketball, Soccer, etc.  evening and weekend hours.
                        
Pay Rate: $7.50-$9.00/ hour


GYMNASTICS INSTRUCTOR – NORTHEAST

Days & Hours:
Tuesday Evenings – 5:15-7:45pm (2.5 hours)

Pay Rate:
Lead Gymnastics Instructors: $12.00-$20.00/hr
Assistant Instructors: $9.00-$14.00/hr

Special Certification or Requirements:

  • 2-3 years gymnastics experience, as athlete or coach.

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.

  • Comprehensive understanding of the sport of gymnastics.

  • Knowledge of the growth and development of children as it relates to the skills required for gymnastics.

  • Physical ability to demonstrate gymnastics skills and techniques through bending, moving and twisting.

  • Must be able to lift 45 pounds.

  • *Lead Instructors must complete CPR and First Aid within the first 90 days of hire.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Under the supervision of the Director of Sports, this person will coach and/or provide instruction. All programs must incorporate character development and the YMCA four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Provides age appropriate skills instruction in gymnastics. Arrives 10-15 minutes before the program begins and greets parents and children as they arrive. Leads discussions and activities that promote the four core values. Implements the YUSA Super Sports philosophy. Responds appropriately to emergencies and adheres to YMCA Emergency Procedures. Maintains a clean program area.
