CHILD CARE DEPARTMENT

 

CHILD CARE ASSISTANT

Special Certifications or Requirements: Knowledge of general growth and development, learning theories and developmentally appropriate activities for children preferred. Ability to work independently, seeking supervisory guidance as needed, using guidance provided constructively. Requires the ability to effectively communicate in a positive and professional manner with parents, children, members, supervisors and co-workers; maintain confidentiality and exchanging accurate information in all communications. Ability and willingness to work with children with diverse abilities and needs. Must be able to focus on many different tasks at the same time. Must be organized, yet flexible. Must be enthusiastic and passionate about working with school age children. Must have patience with all children and their families.

Volunteer Duties include, but are not limited to: Assists in leading activities for school age (K-5) children. Assists with preparation, set up, serving and clean up of snacks. Actively engages all children in games and activities.  Arrives 10 minutes prior to class start time prepared with a positive attitude and appropriate attire; sets-up and greets participants.  Works assigned shifts, arranging coverage if unable to volunteer.  Returns all equipment to its appropriate place; keeping storage areas clean and organized for easy access. Communicates clearly and professionally with children, supervisor, co-workers, and families as needed. Follows program rules, YMCA policies and the YMCA Code of Conduct. Acts as a positive role model while implementing YMCA healthy living policies, character development and following the four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

Days & Hours: 

2-4 hours/week

  • Preschool: Monday – Friday 6:00am-6:00pm
  • 4K: Monday – Friday 9:00-11:30am
  • Afterschool: Monday 1:30-6:00pm, Tuesday-Friday 3:00-6:00pm
