Help Make Swimming Safer

​​Do you want to turn your love of water and swimming into a valuable job or important safety-focused career? With our American Red Cross lifeguard certification courses, you can do just that. We offer certifications for individuals looking to gain the necessary skills to teach swimming or to work as lifeguards in a variety of areas. We also offer lifeguard recertification, to help current guards keep their skills sharp.

Lifeguard Training with CPR/AED/First Aid

In our American Red Cross Lifeguard Training program you’ll learn teamwork, rescue and surveillance techniques, First Aid, CPR, AED and many other essential skills that you'll need to work as a professional lifeguard. This is a blended-learning program which combines online learning with on-site skill sessions. Participants must attend all classes listed for a given session to complete the course. Successful completion of this course results in a 2-year certification in Lifeguarding which will prepare you for work as a lifeguard at community pools, fitness centers, water parks, summer camps, and more.

PREREQUISITES

  • Must be at least age 15
  • Swim continuously the 300-yd lifeguard medley
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using legs only
  • Feet-first surface dive to 9 feet and return to the surface of the pool
  • Pick up a 10-pound brick off the bottom of the pool and swim 25 yards.

Lifeguard Recertification with CPR/AED/First Aid

Currently certified lifeguards who wish to extend their certification can take this refresher course, which re-educates and retests skills related to CPR, AED and First Aid. Participants must present a valid lifeguard certification prior to the start, or on the first day of this course. Participants must attend all classes during a given session, as no make-up classes will be offered.

PREREQUISITES

  • Must meet "Lifeguard Training" prerequisites (see above)

  • Must hold current and valid Lifeguard Certification
