Crossfit FAQ's

What is CrossFit?

The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. The program uses the same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. The program scales load and intensity; it doesn’t change programs.

How do I get started?

First, you need to enroll in our OnRamp program. The OnRamp class is a one time fee of $60 for six 60 minute sessions. Once the OnRamp class is completed, we will take you through a checklist to make sure you are able to perform the required movements with safe and proper mechanics before entering into the regular CrossFit classes. If you are experienced with CrossFit you can “test out” of the OnRamp classes. You can register online for the OnRamp classes at ymcadanecounty.org. All new CrossFit clients must attend the On-Ramp introductory class, a series of 6, one-hour sessions, over a 2 week period.

Can I start classes at anytime?

Yes, once you have completed our OnRamp program your CrossFit monthly fee allows you to participate in unlimited classes throughout the month. Class sizes are small so arrive early, they are small in size with 8-10 people in each class. Registration is easy and can be done online at ymcadanecounty.org.

Why does CrossFit cost more than just my Y membership?

CrossFit methods differ from a typical strength and conditioning workout in many ways. In Four Core CrossFit you are paying for result-driven training from our experienced and trained coaches. Our classes are small in size in order to enable more one-on-one attention from our coaches. Our focus is on quality, not quantity!

Do I need to be in good shape to do CrossFit?

No.  One of the common misconceptions of CrossFit is that it is only for elite level athletes. In reality, the CrossFit community is made up of competitive athletes, former athletes, working professionals, and people who, prior to their CrossFit training, had never been to the gym before.  All are now on the path to get in the best physical and emotional shape of their lives.  Allow us to help you get there too.

Do I need prior experience to take classes?

No. The great thing about CrossFit is that the exercises are based on movements you already do in everyday life such as: squatting, pushing and pulling.  All of the exercises can be scaled to reach anywhere from beginner to the elite athlete.

What can I expect to learn at CrossFit?

The beauty of CrossFit is that not only are you getting a great workout but one also learns a skill set applicable to not just the gym but everyday life.

What is a CrossFit WOD?

It is the recommended “Workout Of the Day”.
